It is with deepest sadness that here at The Legend of Traveling Tardis, we will acknowledge and celebrate the journey of our dear companion William Russell aka Ian Chesterton….
William took that first journey with our first doctor and has never left our hearts ever since. In a reunion fifty seven years in the making, he was able to reignite with all our companions, as well as give us a look into how his life has changed through the years of being one of the doctor’s companions, but that’s not all.
William was an accomplished stage actor as well as a famous actor for the british television, as well as movies and stage. His big break was sir Launcelot in the ITV show The adventures of sir lancelot, in nineteen fifty six who knew that later on he would be gracing our screens as one of the first and only companions to ever travel the first time with our first doctor.
Throughout his career, William Russell has demonstrated versatility, appearing in a wide range of genres from historical dramas to comedies and science fiction. such as Black Adder, Emmerdale, Coronation Street, The Great Escape, The Saint and other cameos.
A side note…. Although his role was uncredited, Russell played a wizard in the background during the film’s climax. “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” (2002)
From all of us here at The Legend of The Traveling Tardis; we send our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. We hope that he is hanging out with Bill Hartnell in Heaven talking about their days on set.
